Forum: prelinger Subject: List of transition movie-related bugs/issues.

Hey guys,

As we transition, I'm going to be making a list of bugs which we need the QA/ops team at the Archive to look at. Here's what I have so far - feel free to add to it by replying:

- you can't browse by keyword any more - the links have disappeared from the collection pages.

- any items with multiple keywords separated by semi-colons are broken in terms of keyword browsing, for example: http://www.archive.org/details/notjustanotherlovestory

- the Universal Newsreels Collection disappeared: http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=34675

- the Game Videos collection, which is actually a landing page for several hidden collections, is no longer linked - you may have to hack it back into the line-up, heh, unless you want a tonne of individual collections unhidden: http://www.archive.org/movies/gamevideos.php

s!

Here's a good example of an item that's messed up: http://www.archive.org/details/Quake_SDA_7838
I just added it on Monday and I made sure to put links right in the description because it's rather confusing otherwise. But the normal links generated by archive on the left side are completely missing, except for "all files".

Also the nice table that listed the various files along with the description entered in the XML that was at the bottom has vanished from all items.

The speed_runs collection in particular (http://www.archive.org/details/speed_runs) seems to have a case of double-personality. Like 6 months ago, all of the items that existed in it were moved to software (which I think isn't a very good classification of the material). There were put back in movies a day later, but also remained in software... so, it seems like they existed in two places. Now, the collection redirects to the software page and older items that I have changed have had their changes vanish. Plus the collection's description is outdated, the top download counts, batting averages etc.

More little gripes..

I hope the forum (this part) will be expanded rather than showing the last 5 messages or so..

I notice the bottom descriptions for the older movies have dissappeared as well. These were great, as they told of histories of these movies, provided key words, offered a review from Mr. Mental Hygiene himself, Ken Smith, and of course, ended with the cryptic key words, danger lurks.

Can you give an example (by URL) of an older movie that formerly had the more detailed description? Rather disappointingly, I'm not sure they're in the XML right now. I'm sure we can restore, though.

Well (changing back into my more familiar garb) I think they ARE there lurking somewhere, if I search by 'ken smith'

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=ken%20smith%20AND%20mediatype%3Amovies%20AND%20collection%3Aprelinger

It's showing 283 movies, but when I go to a movie such as 'Preventing The Spread Of Disease' http://www.archive.org/details/Preventi1940 his review has dissapeared.

Same goes with Danger lurks..

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=lurks%20AND%20mediatype%3Amovies%20AND%20collection%3Aprelinger

If I look up 'lurks' in the movie 'Earthquake' http://www.archive.org/details/Earthqua1973
it doesn't show it there.

Make sense? :)

I noticed it!!

I just want to stop and say thanks to you Simon and your 24 hours a day Webmistress Tracey for all the hard work you've done this past couple weeks. It seems like trying times for both of you and I just want to say that all of it looks wonderful, the moving picture archive is, step by step, looking more awesome by the day.
